Frequently asked questions

About the platform

1.1What is European Craftsmanship?

European Craftsmanship is an editorial directory of fashion, beauty, and home brands that produce in Europe. Two things have to be true before a brand is listed: it is legally based in Europe, and its products are made in Europe. Every brand on the site has been personally researched and reviewed the same way before it appears. We do not sell anything directly. We connect you to brands that produce in Europe, and you buy from them.

1.2Who runs European Craftsmanship?

European Craftsmanship is founded and led by Lisa Walter, who researches and reviews every brand herself. It started as a personal research project in 2018 and grew into what it is today. You can read the full story on the About page.

1.3Why does producing in Europe matter?

I think where something is made matters. I would rather buy from somewhere with enforceable labour and environmental rules than somewhere without them. That does not make a brand automatically good, and I do not treat it as a guarantee. It also keeps small ateliers, family businesses, and skills that take years to learn from disappearing, which is the part I care about most.

1.4Who is European Craftsmanship for?

European Craftsmanship is for anyone who wants to buy well-made products without spending hours researching where things actually come from. The platform is most useful for conscious shoppers who care about production, materials, and transparency, but who also want practical recommendations across different price points.

1.5How many brands are on the platform?

Fewer than there will be. I am building the directory in public rather than launching with a padded list, so it starts small and grows as I finish each review. Every brand on it has been through the full review. You can browse what is there and filter by country or category.

How the review works

2.1How do you decide which brands are listed?

Every brand I list has been through the same review. A brand is included if it is legally based in Europe and produces in Europe. From there I go through what the brand publishes on its own website: how they produce, what materials they use, and so on. That becomes the overview you read on the brand profile, so you get a first impression without doing the digging yourself. If a brand is vague about where things are made, I do not list it. The full process is on the How I work page.

2.2How do you review a brand?

Two things decide whether a brand is listed: it is based in Europe and it produces in Europe. Then I go through the brand’s own website for the other five: its values, its materials and where they are sourced, its sustainability practices and certifications, how openly it publishes all of this, and what its social media shows. Those shape the profile. The full breakdown is on the How I work page.

2.3What does “Made in Europe” actually mean on this platform?

“Made in Europe” on European Craftsmanship means the final assembly happens in Europe. That is the stage where the fabric is cut and sewn, the shoe is lasted, or the bag is constructed, and where European labour protections, wages, and working conditions apply. Raw materials may come from elsewhere. What counts is whether the brand publishes where they come from.

2.4Do you only highlight brands that produce and source raw materials in Europe?

No. The requirement for inclusion is that the final assembly happens in Europe. Raw materials may be sourced from outside Europe, as long as the brand is transparent about where they come from. Brands that source everything within Europe are labelled “100% Europe” on their profile, so you can filter for them specifically if that matters to you.

2.5How do you know where a brand produces?

I go through what the brand publishes about itself and cross-check it: the website, the imprint or legal pages, product pages, social media. Where something is unclear, I ask the brand directly. If a brand cannot tell me where production happens, I do not list it.

2.6What if a brand has its headquarters in Europe but produces elsewhere?

If a brand is headquartered in Europe but produces outside Europe, it does not qualify for the platform. European Craftsmanship only lists brands that are based in Europe and manufacture in Europe.

2.7What happens if a brand you have listed changes its production?

If a brand changes how it produces in a way that no longer meets the standard, I take it off the site. That includes moving production outside Europe, or becoming less open about the supply chain. I run a yearly check on every profile to make sure what is on it is still accurate, and I update it when something has changed.

Shopping and affiliate links

3.1How do I buy something I find on the site?

You buy directly from the brand. European Craftsmanship does not sell products itself. When you follow the “Visit [brand name]” link on a profile or a product link, you are taken to the brand’s own website, where you place the order. The brand handles payment, shipping, and returns.

3.2What is an affiliate link and does it cost me more?

An affiliate link is a tracked link that lets the brand know you came from European Craftsmanship when you make a purchase. If you buy through one, I earn a small commission from the brand. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you went to the brand’s site directly. The commission comes from the brand’s margin, not from you.

3.3Do you earn a commission on every brand?

No. I only earn a commission from brands that have joined an affiliate programme. A brand does not need one to be listed, and the review is the same either way.

3.4Who handles shipping, returns, and customer service?

The brand handles shipping, returns, and customer service. European Craftsmanship is an editorial directory, not a retailer. When you buy through a brand’s site, all of that falls under the brand’s own terms and policies, which you can read on their website before you order.

3.5Are the prices on the site always up to date?

Prices on the site are reviewed regularly, but the brand’s own website is always the final source of truth. If you see a price difference, the brand’s site is correct. If you notice a price that looks outdated on my end, email me at info@eurocraftsmanship.com.

Accounts and newsletter

4.1Do I need an account to use the site?

No. You can browse the whole directory and read the magazine without one. An account lets you save brands and products you want to come back to, and read past the free article limit.

4.2What do I get with a free account?

Saved brands and products, unlimited magazine reading, and the newsletter if you want it. It is free.

4.3How do I sign up for the newsletter?

You can sign up through any newsletter form on the site, or tick the newsletter box when you create an account.

4.4How do I unsubscribe from the newsletter or delete my account?

You can unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of every email. To delete your account, email info@eurocraftsmanship.com and we will do it for you. Deleting it yourself from your account page is on the list to build.

Our relationship with brands

5.1Do brands pay to be listed?

No. Getting listed costs nothing and follows the same review for every brand: based in Europe, producing in Europe. Every brand on the site has the same free profile. Anything beyond that buys room and my time, and the ways to work together are on the For brands page.

5.2Are there paid ways to work together?

Affiliate is open now: if a brand runs an affiliate programme, its products can appear on the site, and we earn a commission when you buy. It stays free for the brand. Beyond that, we are developing a brand programme that opens later in 2026. It will give qualifying brands additional ways to take part in the platform, and it keeps the principle the platform is built on: every brand goes through the same review, and what a brand pays for is never what we write about it. Details will be on the For brands page when it opens, and brands can join the brand list there to hear about it first.

5.3How much is your commission?

It varies. Rates are agreed with each brand individually, and the review is the same either way.

Trust and editorial independence

6.1Does paying influence what you write?

No. What I think is mine and it stays mine, whatever a brand pays for. I label anything the brand writes itself as theirs, so you always know who is speaking. And if you want my opinion on a brand, it is in Notes from Lisa.

6.2How do I know which words are yours and which came from a brand?

Everything editorial is written by me, in my own voice. I label anything a brand supplies, or that we make together. The two are never mixed.

Run a European brand? Everything for brands lives on the For brands page.
