Introduction

This Privacy Policy applies to the website eurocraftsmanship.com and related online services operated under the European Craftsmanship brand. It covers personal data processed in connection with public pages, editorial content, directory pages, newsletter subscriptions, user accounts, member features, favourites, brand dashboard features, and communications sent through the site.

This Privacy Policy should be read together with the Imprint, Terms and Conditions, and Affiliate Disclosure where relevant. Those pages deal with legal identity, platform rules, and commercial transparency; this page specifically explains the processing of personal data.

Who is responsible for data processing

The controller responsible for processing personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Lisa Walter

Email: info@eurocraftsmanship.com

European Craftsmanship is operated from Germany. The Imprint page contains additional legal information about the business and should be consulted alongside this Privacy Policy.

No Data Protection Officer has been appointed at this time because the legal requirements for mandatory appointment are not currently met.

What personal data is collected

The personal data collected depends on how the site is used. Different categories of data may be processed when browsing the website, creating an account, subscribing to the newsletter, saving favourites, or contacting the site.

  • Email address
  • Any profile details voluntarily added to an account

  • Referrer information

3.7 Affiliate link data

3.8 Non-personal brand catalogue data

European Craftsmanship maintains internal catalogue information about brands. Where this information concerns only companies and not identifiable natural persons, it is not treated as personal data under the GDPR. Airtable is currently used only for such non-personal brand data, not for storing personal data about users.

How personal data is collected

Personal data is collected in three main ways: directly from the user, automatically through use of the website, and through service providers used to operate the platform.

4.1 Data provided directly

Personal data may be provided directly when a user:

  • Creates an account
  • Logs in to member or dashboard areas
  • Subscribes to the newsletter
  • Uses a contact, feedback, or correction form
  • Sends an email
  • Updates account details or preferences

4.2 Data collected automatically

Some data is collected automatically when the website is used, including server log data, essential session-related data, and cookie-related information. Non-essential cookies and analytics are intended to be activated only after user consent through the consent tool.

4.3 Data processed through service providers

Certain service providers process data on behalf of European Craftsmanship, particularly for account management, newsletter delivery, analytics, website hosting, and support functions. These providers act within the scope of contractual and legal safeguards.

How personal data is used

Personal data is processed only for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes connected with operating the website and providing related services.

5.1 Operating the website

Technical and log data is used to deliver the website, maintain stability, detect errors, protect against misuse, and ensure security.

5.2 Providing accounts and member features

Account and member data is used to create and manage accounts, authenticate users, enable dashboard access, provide favourites and saved content, and maintain the secure operation of member features.

5.3 Sending newsletters and service communications

Contact and newsletter data is used to send editorial updates, newsletters, confirmations, account notices, and other communications a user has requested or that are necessary for account administration.

5.4 Handling enquiries and corrections

Correspondence data is used to answer questions, process support requests, review feedback, and improve the accuracy and usefulness of the directory and site content.

5.5 Measuring and improving the site

Where analytics consent has been given, usage data is used to understand how the site is used, identify popular content, diagnose technical issues, and improve content, structure, and user experience.

5.6 Managing affiliate relationships

Limited click-related data is used to understand which outbound brand links are used and to manage affiliate reporting and commissions. This does not include full transaction data from third-party brand websites.

5.7 Complying with legal obligations and protecting rights

Personal data may also be processed where necessary to comply with legal obligations, enforce legal claims, defend rights, prevent abuse, or cooperate with authorities where required by law.

European Craftsmanship does not use personal data for automated decision-making, including profiling, that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies and similar technologies are used to support website functions, remember settings, and, where consent is given, measure usage or support marketing-related functions.

8.1 Strictly necessary cookies and local storage

Strictly necessary cookies are used where required to provide core website and account functions, such as logging in, maintaining sessions, protecting the site, and supporting essential functionality. These cookies do not generally require consent.

The magazine’s free reading limit uses one first-party entry in the browser’s local storage (named ecArticleMeter). It records which magazine articles have been opened on this device within the past 30 days, so that the limit of three free articles per month can be applied. The entry contains article names and dates only. It stays on the device, is never sent to us or to any third party, and is not used for tracking or advertising. Entries older than 30 days are deleted automatically, and the entry can be removed at any time by clearing the browser’s website data.

8.2 Functional, analytics and marketing cookies

Additional cookies may be used for functional improvements, analytics, or marketing-related purposes. These are intended to be activated only if the user gives consent through the consent management tool.

8.3 Consent management

A consent management tool such as Complianz is intended to be used to display the cookie banner, record cookie choices, and block non-essential cookies unless and until the user has opted in. Cookie preferences can be changed later through the relevant consent controls.

8.4 Browser controls

Most browsers also allow users to block or delete cookies. Blocking essential cookies may affect the proper functioning of the website, especially account-related features.

Analytics and tracking

If consent is given, European Craftsmanship may use Google Analytics and similar tools to understand how the website is used and how it can be improved.

Analytics may involve the processing of pseudonymous identifiers, device and browser data, approximate location, page usage, session behaviour, and referrer information. These tools are intended to be configured in a way that respects consent settings, including the use of consent mode where applicable.

The legal basis for this processing is consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Refusing analytics consent does not prevent normal use of the public website.

Google Search Console may also be used for site performance and search visibility monitoring. To the extent personal data is processed in this context, the processing is used to maintain and improve search performance and visibility.

How long personal data is kept

Personal data is kept only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

In general:

  • Account data is kept for as long as the account remains active and for a limited period afterward where needed for security, support, or legal reasons.
  • Newsletter data is kept until the user unsubscribes or the mailing list is otherwise cleaned, with limited suppression data retained where necessary to respect opt-out requests.
  • Correspondence data is kept as long as necessary to handle the matter and for a limited follow-up period where needed.
  • Server logs are kept for a limited period appropriate to security and technical operations.
  • Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings configured in the analytics tool and only where consent has been given.

Where no fixed retention period can be stated, the period is determined by the purpose of processing, the sensitivity of the data, and applicable legal obligations.

Who personal data is shared with

Personal data may be shared with service providers where necessary to operate the website and provide requested services. Article 13 GDPR requires transparency about recipients or categories of recipients, and the main relevant recipients are described below.

11.1 Hosting provider

The website is hosted through IONOS, which processes technical data necessary to make the website available and secure. This may include server log information and infrastructure-level technical data.

11.2 Outseta

Outseta, Inc. is used as a service provider for member accounts, dashboard access, authentication, subscription management, newsletter sending, and help desk communications. In this role, Outseta may process personal data such as email address, account details, subscription status, and support communications on behalf of European Craftsmanship.

11.3 Analytics and search tools

Where enabled and consented to, personal data may be processed by analytics and search-related providers such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

11.4 Professional and legal recipients

Personal data may also be shared with professional advisers, authorities, courts, or enforcement bodies where necessary to comply with legal obligations or protect legal rights.

Airtable is not used to store personal data for this website’s user-related processing; it is used only for non-personal brand catalogue data.

International data transfers

European Craftsmanship is based in Germany, but some service providers may process personal data outside the European Economic Area, especially in the United States.

12.1 Transfers relating to Outseta and Google services

Use of Outseta and certain Google services may involve transferring personal data to the United States or storing it there.

12.2 Safeguards

Where personal data is transferred to countries outside the EEA, transfers are made only where appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission or other recognised transfer mechanisms and supplementary safeguards where appropriate.

More information about the safeguards relevant to a particular transfer can be requested by contacting European Craftsmanship.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, users have the following rights, subject to the conditions and limits set by law:

  • Right to be informed
  • Right of access
  • Right to rectification
  • Right to erasure
  • Right to restriction of processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
  • Right not to be subject to automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects

Users also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority.

How to exercise your rights

Requests relating to personal data and privacy rights can be sent to info@eurocraftsmanship.com.

To protect personal data, additional information may be requested to verify identity before a request is fulfilled. Requests are generally answered within the legally required period, usually one month, although that period may be extended where permitted for complex or numerous requests.

If a request cannot be fulfilled in full, an explanation will be provided, subject to legal limits.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the website, services, legal requirements, or data processing practices. The current version and last updated date will always appear at the top of this page.

Where changes are material, additional notice may be given where appropriate.
